Coronation Street Catch Up: the cheap towels are a false economy edition

your one-stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Oh well, maybe it was never meant to be.

Ken gives Claudia the old "it's not you, it's me" line (as old as Ken himself) as he bids farewell to Still Waters and gives Claudia the heave-ho (it appears that his love of Still Waters doesn't run deep after all).

Claudia is quite sanguine about the breakup although she does manage to coax some salty discharge from her eyes. Ken returns to his former home, now owned by Tracy, who isn't exactly ecstatic to see Ken adding to the occupancy of her house. Fake altruist that she is, Tracy tries to manufacture a reconciliation - to no avail.

Although he left the posh geriatric garrison, Ken's legacy at Still Waters will prevail as he beats Charles in the election by revealing the corruption rife at the seniors residence. After winning the election, Ken then announces his departure and names Norris as the interim Chairman.  One might even say, "touché!"

The fallout from Asha's ill-advised video continues to cause pain and anguish for Asha and for Dev as he discovers the extent of the distribution of the video (now on the Internet for all to see). Against Asha's wishes, Dev goes to police to make a complaint and see what can be done (not much, it seems).

On a side note, Gary discovers that Asha and Amy's frenemy, Kelly, is no longer attending the posh Oakhill School. Kelly, as you know, is the daughter of the late loan shark (Rick) and guilty Gary had been sending money to provide for Kelly's education at Oakhill. What has Kelly's Mom been doing with that cash?

The skin crawl quotient continues to ratchet up over at Yasmeen's house. A visit from Cathy turns sour as Cathy leaves in a huff, upset at Yasmeen's antsy and angry behaviour which is actually caused by her fear of Gruesome Geoff.

Not quite sure what the history is between Johnny and newcomer, Scott, but whatever it is, Johnny and Jenny are taking off pronto for a holiday in France. Carla is set to fill in at the Rovers but her bar tending skills leave something to be desired - unless you like your beer with 90% head and 10% beer.

Tim contemplates selling his horse in order to buy Sally her dream wedding dress but then Geoff intervenes and offers large sums of (Yasmeen's) cash.

And now (for some reason), a bumper crop of lines from the week that was:

Steve watches Carla trying to serve a beer:
"Here's me thinking you could pull anything"
(heads up!)

Claudia appreciates Tracy's concern:
"Your heart is nearly in the right place"
(I didn't even know she had one)

Claudia's two lessons of life:
1. "Never regret anything"
2. "Don't buy cheap towels - it's a false economy"
(number 2 is the important one)

Ken explains to Claudia why he doesn't like Still Waters:
"These aren't my people"
(whose people are they?)

Claudia tries to convince Ken to stay:
"You know you're fighting a losing battle when Norris is your trump card"
(too true)

Johnny gives Carla some beer serving advice:
"Nozzle in the bottom, nice firm pull"
(wait, are we still talking about pints?)

Tim tells Abi he'll need cash to buy Sally's wedding dress:
"I'm going to have to sell me horse"
(I suggest using the popular equine selling site: Kigeegee)

Jenny to Johnny re: Liz's flirting with Scott:
"It's like watching a lion take down a gazelle"
(only more disturbing)

Tracy to Ken re: his breakup:
"Underneath all that hair, Claudia is a very sensitive woman"
(with layers of complexity)

***

Well, Kabin Fever Kolleagues, so ends another week with Ken's return to the Street - where he belongs. I don't know why he and Claudia didn't just rent a flat in Victoria Court. It could have been the best of both worlds: nice modern surroundings and close proximity to all the things Ken loves. Oh well, onward and upward. Thanks so much for spending some time here. Do stay safe and keep well. Cheers!
