your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...
Heavens to Betsy!
D.S. Swain's daughter is out of control. She skips school, lies, steals, hangs around with thugs, is indirectly responsible for Carla's head injury... and yet still seems to have a job at the factory (so far).
Yes, it seems that Betsy thinks she can help Mason by giving his numbskull brothers a set of keys to Underworld so they can steal valuable stuff (gold-plated knickers?) from the factory while everyone is out at a team building event (aka bowling, aka skiving). In return, the two fatheads promise that they will leave Mason alone.
Of course, it doesn't go according to plan.
Carla returns to the factory while dumb and dumber are still in Underworld. Carla gets conked on the head and winds up in the Coronation Street Wing of Weatherfield General Hospital with a brain bleed. It looks serious but before you can say NHS, she is back on her feet with a bandage on her head.
Lisa is very worried but won't admit her true feelings to Carla.
Over at the cop shop, one of the bonehead brothers is taken in for questioning. The brother (Matty) has an alibi (fake, 'natch) so he is released but not before he says something that makes Lisa believe that he had something to do with the death of her partner (Becky).
Oh, and one other thing. It seems that lawyer-in-training Alya is back and working with the lawyer representing Matty. She doesn't seem comfortable working for a lawyer who's defending a scumbag and says as much to Adam.
Elsewhere, Gemma is off on a vacation while Chesney is at home looking after the kids, working at the kebab shop, and getting more and more frazzled by the minute. On top of that he seems to be involved in a continuing road rage battle with someone in a van. It all looks grim.
Over at the prison, Lauren finally gets to spend some time with Frankie while she frets about who will take care of her son if she gets sent down for killing Joel with a rock. Max convinces Shona and David to volunteer for the job of taking care of Frankie but David is not thrilled.
David is even less thrilled about Shona's decision to see Clayton (her son) who is in hospital after trying to take his own life. As you recall, Clayton killed Kylie.
Meanwhile, Nick is determined to tell Leanne that he and Toyah are planning to be together. Sam is not thrilled and is now in the unenviable position of having to lie for his libido-supercharged Dad. Toyah is reluctant to go public as Leanne is struggling, first with the upcoming trial of Rowan and then the sudden death of her father.
Nick's solution?
Two tickets to Tenerife. What better way to break the news gently? Why not just hire a plane with a banner?
When Leanne discovers the booking on Nick's computer, poor Sam has to pretend that he's going to Tenerife with his Dad.
And now for a few lines from the week that was:
Carla finds the keys that Betsy stole and confronts her:
"If you took the prints off these keys..."
(you mean the keys that now have your prints on them since you've been holding them)
Leanne questions Steve's judgment:
"You married Tracy Barlow... twice"
(well, if at first you don't succeed...)
Ryan comments on Carla's complicated love life:
"This is what happens when you change teams"
(wait, are we talking about football?)
David keeps tabs on Nick love life:
"Still with... whichever sister you're with?"
(Toyah... for the moment)
Betsy to Mason's brothers:
"That woman you attacked is my boss"
(she may not be your boss for much longer)
Sam to Toyah re: her and Leanne:
"Did you ever share a boyfriend?"
(Hmm, Peter Barlow comes to mind)
Kirk shouts encouraging words as Carla is taken to hospital in an ambulance:
"Tell her the team building went really well!"
(yes, that will help as the doctors treat Carla's brain bleed)
Roy to Ryan as he tries to pass the time waiting for Carla to wake up:
"Do you know the name of the longest muscle in the leg?"
(the leg muscle?)
Leanne to Nick after she discovers his vacation booking:
"Who are you taking to Tenerife?"
(well, it's not David)
***
Well, patient punters, so ends another week. That Betsy is a troublesome customer and now she's racked with guilt over Carla's injuries which are a direct result of her handiwork. Just wait till she finds out that one or more of Mason's brother were involved in the death of her mother (Becky).
Thanks so much for spending your time at the Hip. Have a great week!
