Coronation Street Catch Up: the In Memory of Eccles edition

your one-stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Sad news for Corrie fans everywhere as poor Eccles passes away at the vet's following a sudden illness. Emma is left to make the painful decision because Ken is away. Needless to say Kenneth is devastated to learn of the death of his beloved dog.

Of course, as Corrie fans know, their relationship didn't start out on an auspicious note. Dear Blanche (patron of this blog) brought Eccles into the Barlow house and she immediately bit Ken (Eccles, not Blanche).

However, as the years went by, Ken and Eccles became very close. In fact, it was while walking Eccles by the canal, that Ken met one of his extra-curricular lovers (Martha, the boat dweller). Deirdre was not amused.

After Blanche passed away, Ken became Eccles' guardian and she was a regular scene stealer whenever she appeared.  Certainly one of the best animal stars to grace the cobbles and she will be missed.

Speaking of animals, on the other end of the spectrum we have that beast: Geoff.

Despite Alya's best efforts, Yasmeen decides not to attend Zeedan's wedding. However she does meet secretly with two police officers to find out more about Geoff's murky past and packs an emergency escape suitcase which she hides in the living room.

After leaving her babies on the bus, Gemma opens up to Rita about her anxieties.. Gemma is subsequently convinced to return to the doctor and open up about her issues. Chesney is concerned and asks Bernie to come back for support.

Nina, Evelyn and Toyah attend a climate change protest at city hall and get into trouble with the police. Imran intervenes and collects them at the police station. Imran is peeved because Toyah was supposed to be going for a job interview.

Over at Still Waters, Norris tries to incite Ken to run against Charles in the upcoming Still Waters election. Norris succeeds by telling stories about Charles' disdain for Eccles. Ken takes the bait and announces his candidacy.

Emma wants Seb to move out pronto. On an alarming note, Steve and Leanne's young Oliver collapses and Steve rushes him over to the medical centre.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Roy to Toyah about his customers' environmental habits:
"More and more people are bringing their own drinking vessels"
(you mean cups?)

Norris to Claudia re: Still Waters:
"This place is a virtual dictatorship"
(yes, but as dictatorships go, it's one of the best)

Norris tries to inspire Ken:
"You could be our Cromwell. You could overthrow Charles."
(Come to think of it, I have noticed quite a few roundheads in the place)

Ken to Claudia re: Eccles:
"That dog meant a great deal to me"
(us too)

Geoff begs Yasmeen not to leave him:
"I'm nothing without you"
(He's nothing. Period.)

Well Corrie Covidians, so ends another week (although the days do seem to merge into each other). Our ration of three episodes a week continues. Maybe that's a good thing since there's only so much Geoff I can take in a single week.

I do hope they don't make Oliver's illness into yet another long and painful saga. We've seen more than enough story lines of kids in distress. An uplifting story would be most welcome, especially these days.

Thanks so much for dropping by and spending some time at the Hip. Lovely to have you visit and do stay safe and stay well. All the best.
