Coronation Street Catch Up: the sexy, gormless doormat edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Our beloved Coronation Street pre-empted by basketball?!!! Oh, perfidious CBC

Capricious CBC scheduling aside, the headline of the week is the fire in Ty and Alina's apartment. Alina, asleep at the time in the flat, is rushed to hospital. She's okay but there's bad news - she lost the baby. Investigators trace the source of the fire to a candle lit by Alina, but Alina is certain that she placed the candle safely away from any flammable material.

As the investigation continues, the incident is deemed to be arson as an accelerant was used to start the fire. Alina thinks Fiz is the culprit but soon Evelyn, Fiz and Ty learn that it was Hope who stole Alina's keys, snuck into the flat and started the fire.

Fiz is distraught and decides to make a run for it with Hope to escape the inevitable fallout. Ty is torn between revealing the truth to Alina and protecting Fiz and Hope.

Todd seems to be recovering nicely from his pariah status. George takes pity on him and lets him stay at his place. And, as parking (or lack of) becomes an issue on the Street, Todd seems to be back to his old snarky self, engaging in a parking feud with Shona.

Speaking of George, his on again, off again romance with Eileen is now off.  This after George overhears Eileen talking about the creepiness factor of dating an undertaker. George is offended and when he tries to mend fences, Eileen says it's better that they remain friends.

A frank video chat with Izzy reveals to Carla and Sarah just how difficult her life has been, dealing with her health, her son and the threat of COVID.

Meanwhile Dev seems to be way too involved in his son's love life. Aadi likes Summer and things seem to be moving along (slowly) until Tracy, then Steve, then Dev wrongly conclude that Aadi is courting Amy

Nina is still struggling with her grief over Seb's death and decides to create a memorial vegetable garden in his name. Abi is ok with the idea but it's not much solace to her, having lost her son.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Mary tells Tracy what she would have loved when she was young:
"A snog up the ginnel"
(I hope that's not a euphemism)

Evelyn complains to Fiz about Cerberus in the girls' bedroom:
"Last week he stank of Chanel No. 5"
(his usual scent in Chanel No. K9)

Nina to Roy:
"I like your brain, Roy"
(probably the best cerebrum on the Street)

Dev assures Tracy that Aadi is well prepared for romance:
"My son's going to be fragrant and safe"
(well, one out of two isn't bad)

Steve objects to Tracy calling him a gormless doormat:
"Sexy, gormless doormat, if you don't mind"
(that's much better)

Dev threatens Steve as they get into a tense standoff:
"Don't make me put my cappuccino down!"
(or threaten you with a stir stick)

Steve to Aadi:
"I was your age once, like a rabid animal"
(a peeved hamster, perhaps?)

Dev to Aadi:
"When it comes to the ladies, I'm the bomb"
(I think he means he has 'bombed'... several times)

George to Eileen re: Todd:
"You do know he's kipping at the funeral parlour"
(that's why he's a little stiff when he wakes up)

George to Mary re: Eileen:
"She finds me repulsive"
(look on the bright side... if there is one)

***
Well, Bistro buddies, so ends another week. Things don't look good for Fiz and Hope as they make a quick getaway. Not great for Alina and Ty either. Seems to me that Amy and Aadi make a pretty good match (as opposed to Aadi and Summer). Thanks for the pleasure of your company here at the Hip and have a great week!
