Coronation Street Catch Up: the farting through silk edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Welcome to Griff's Racist Retreat!

As the brochure says, you'll be treated to everything that the quasi-wilderness has to offer: rabbit skinning (optional), yobbo camaraderie, (not-much) fun runs... and explosives.

Yes, it seems that Griff's camping trip was rudely interrupted by an explosion in the trunk (boot) of a car carrying Griff, with Max in the back seat. The explosives went off unexpectedly and we don't know exactly what Griff was planning but the accidental combustion injured Max and he was taken to hospital.

At the hospital, Griff pretends to be Max's Dad and warns Max not to tell the truth about what led to the explosion. Max goes along with Griff although he's starting to feel threatened by Griff's hard line and Spider is caught up in the middle of the situation and told to play along by his police handler. The cops want Spider to stay undercover and get some hard evidence so they can nab Griff and his backers.

However, Spider cannot keep the truth about his role as a copper from Toyah. He confides in Toyah but urges her not to tell anyone lest the undercover operation (and his safety) is compromised.

Speaking of secrets, Ty is going to great lengths to keep his Christmas Day wedding surprise under wraps. Preparations are well underway: questionable taste wedding dress? Check. Bridesmaid dresses for Hope and Ruby? (Check). Wedding vows plagiarized from Spice Girls song? (Check). Cock-up in the making? (Double check).

More Xmas secrets over at Eileen's where George is planning to surprise Eileen with a new sofa. He just has to arrange to remove the old sofa and replace it with the new one - without Eileen knowing. Good luck with that!

Want more secrets?

How about the fact that Jacob's absent Dad (Damon) is Harvey Gaskell's brother. Damon comes to Coronation Street and says he wants to make up for the fact that he's a rubbish Dad. He starts by having Harvey beaten up as punishment for Harvey's role in Jacob's drug dealing past. Then he asserts his involvement in the Bistro (much to Leanne's displeasure) and gets Jacob a job working evenings at the Bistro.

Jacob is not keen on his Dad's plan but takes the job anyway.

Over at the Rovers, Daisy is worried about a lump in her breast and Daniel seems to be less of a supportive partner and more of a plank. He's afraid that he may lose Daisy (as he lost Sinead). However he comes round and the couple are happy to learn that the lump is nothing more than a cyst.  Afterwards Daniel buys an engagement ring and he plans to surprise Daisy. Jenny gives him her blessing.

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Todd's term for George's elaborate couch replacement plan:
"Sofagate"
(It's like Watergate... but with furniture)

Spider tells Toyah the truth:
"I'm an undercover police officer"
(So you don't own a health juice bar?)

Mary reads the review of her acting in the play:
"This is a touchstone performance"
(If by touchstone, you mean rock bottom..)

Carla to Peter re: Daisy:
"She's always a bit Lady Gaga at the best of times"
(she was born that way)

David is not keen on Max joining Griff's expedition:
"So it's a racist survival camp?"
(I think you get the gist)

Daniel to Daisy who is in costume for the Christmas Grotto:
"Why are you dressed like a sexy elf?"
(for an X-rated X-mas?)

George tells Sean what he told Eileen:
"Stick with me sweetheart and you'll be farting through silk"
(why would one even want to do that?)

***
Well Bistro Buddies, so ends another week. I do hope that Spider manages to put an end to Griff's nefarious activities and discover the odious councilor who is funding Griff and his gang - and making Maria's life miserable. Thanks so much for spending some time here at the Hip and I hope you have a great week. Cheers!
