Coronation Street Catch Up: the post-prandial coffee euphemism edition

your one-stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

It looks like Clayton has an unfortunate penchant for stabbing and his latest victim is his poor Mom, Shona. It all kicks off when Clayton escapes after his Dad's funeral and convinces Shona to bring some cash and biscuits to his hideout as he plans to make a run for it.

A hostage taking situation ensues with Clayton threatening Shona with a knife and getting increasingly impatient with the police negotiator. Of course many Platts arrive at the yellow police tape and David is shocked to see Shona finally emerge with a knife wound in the abdomen. Looks like shades of Kylie's attack - also by Clayton.

Tracy and Steve finally find out about Amy's termination and blame themselves for not paying more attention to their daughter, rather than making elaborate adoption plans and buying a house.

Michelle and Robert fire Tyler and Mom Vicki is not happy. A brief catfight between Vicki and Tracy breaks out in the street but ends with an exchange of threats. My money's on Tracy. After all, she once killed a man with a knick knack.

Daniel is super stressed and Sinead helps by enlisting Brian's help with Daniel's MA assignment. Brian manages to finish the essay and then spills a coffee over the laptop. The essay is finally retrieved (from the cloud) but receives a thumbs down from Daniel's supervisor. An egghead joust then ensues, pitting Ken against Brian in a battle of wits as to who should help Daniel.

Gina has been accused of stealing money and is finally vindicated when Kev returns from holiday and explains how he mistakenly took the cash left by Gina for Sophie. Gina decides to stay in Weatherfield and Kevin invites her to stay at his place.

Claudia is not happy with the prospect of a halfway house for recently released felons being built in the same area that she's just bought a flat. Sally does not agree.

A new person, Kate's friend Lolly, shows up to help Kate with her wedding plans and seems to have captivated Craig.

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Gail shows up at the hostage-taking with snacks for David:
"I brought you some breakfast"
(it's like Uber Eats from your Mom)

Brian talks to Jeff about relationships:
"Every couple needs coffee"
(by which he means sex)

Craig wanders into David's new barber shop:
"I'm looking for some advice about beard oil"
(for whose beard?)

Tracy tries to adopt Amy's lingo for pre-dinner drinks:
"Prinks"
(stinks?)

One of Roy's mother's sayings.
"Somewhere there's a village missing an idiot"
(what a lovely woman)

Tracy re: Mary:
"Sometimes I think you're about as useful as a rubber beak on a woodpecker"
(Bird power)

Well, punter posse, so ends another week with a dramatic hostage taking. Shona escaped briefly but then returned to her captor. Why? I don't know.

Clayton is without redeeming qualities. Apparently he wasn't get beat up in prison, he was running a thriving drug start-up business and Pops was bringing in the stuff through the er.. back door. What a nightmare! Oh well. Thanks so much for spending some time here at the Hip. Thanks for your comments and have a great week.
