Coronation Street Catch Up: the Rana Habeeb memorial edition

your one-stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

The Underworld roof caves in while the employees are staging a sit-in to protest Carla's outsourcing plan. Gina and Sally are having a goofy argument on top of the roof which results in Sally falling through the roof and precipitating the Phelan-built structure to crumble like a house of bread-sticks.

Everyone makes it out alive except for poor Rana Habeeb who had the misfortune to be in the Underworld office at the time of the collapse. The emergency crews try to save her to no avail. Meanwhile a heartbroken Kate is left distraught on her wedding day waiting for Rana at the registry office and then, hearing the news, rushes to Rana's side - all in vain.

The fallout from the cave-in is widespread.

David thinks Nick had something to do with it. Peter aborts his boat buying trip to return and comfort Carla and also engineers a scheme to bribe Gary to stay quiet about the fact that he told Carla the roof was dodgy. Nick is part of the scheme and puts pressure on Gary. Gary, despite Sarah's objections, agree to the deal.

Sally is in hospital but recovering nicely. Rana's mother shows up and insists on an Islamic funeral which angers Imran.

Then there's Wayne. He was once fostered by Roy and Hailey and has now returned, many years later, to say hello to Roy but his main reason for being in town is that he is the health and safety inspector charged with investigating the roof collapse.

Of course, Kate is consumed with grief and Carla is racked with guilt.

Nick, the dolt, also loses a foosball game to Nathalie which means he has to give her more money or a job at Trim Up North.

And now for a few lines from the sad week that was:

Wayne to Roy:
"Happiness has been in short supply lately"
(true)

Sarah to Gary:
"It's not too late to tell the truth"
(It is now)

Roy to Wayne:
"I was born middle aged"
(as opposed to being born to be wild)

Carla to Peter:
"I'm siting in your Dads' car with a topless mermaid"
(Really? Who's driving?)

Ken hears the title of a supemarket trolley collector's book, while waiting for Peter:
"Tales from the Trolleyman"
(sounds like a best seller)

Well, mithering mourners, so ends a sad week on the Street. I'm sorry to see Rana exit this mortal coil. The playoffs start soon so prepare for Corrie schedule changes head. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.
