Coronation Street Catch Up: the beast with two backs edition

your one-stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

PLEASE NOTE: ELECTION COVERAGE ON MONDAY MEANS CORRIE WILL NOT BE SEEN AT ITS REGULAR TIME. CHECK LOCAL LISTINGS FOR THE BROADCAST TIME IN YOUR AREA.

First Question: Is Kevin's sister Annie Lennox?

If so, why didn't she sing a few tunes during her short visit to the show. Actually, I have now been informed by reliable sources that it was Kev's sister, Debbie (not Annie Lennox) who dropped in to see if Kev would accept a large sum of money from a generous but dead aunt.

Kev, bless his tiny heart, doesn't know if he wants money (who is he, some kind of Dalai Lama auto mechanic?) But Sophie convinces him to take the dosh and all's well... except that Sophie doesn't like her business school classes and seems to be pining to do something more exciting (watching paint dry? - ed)

Jade tells Evelyn a sad story about a marriage gone wrong (stop me if you've heard this one before) but there's something distinctly 'bunny boiler-ish' about her and her intentions as the supposedly selfless care giver.

Dev finally discovers that Asha has been using harsh chemicals to try to lighten her skin and takes her to the doctor. Sinead and Daniel are doing the best they can while Ken is reluctant to fly off to Venice with Claudia at such a difficult time for the young couple.

Ali seems to be still hooked on prescription drugs as he falls asleep in Maria's apartment while looking after Liam which leads to a fire. No one is hurt and no damage done but Maria is not impressed. Ryan is not impressed either.

Michelle finally tell Robert about her touchy-feely boss and a vengeful Roberto wants to teach the lech a lesson but Michelle stops him.

After beating Kel in the ginnel, Paul is more distraught than ever and wants to leave Weatherfield. Only Billy knows the truth but can't convince Paul to go to the police and report his abuse at the hands of Kel. Kel is in hospital and is visited by police but doesn't tell them it was Paul who assaulted him.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Beth to Ken re: Claudia:
"Did you have a falling out with snooty drawers"
(that's Ms. Snooty Drawers, if you don't mind)

Mary to Asha during the sex talk:
"Your father is worried that you might be about to make the beast with two backs"
(or even the beast with one back)

Michelle finally tells Robert what happened in Ray's hotel room:
"He answered the door in his bathrobe"
(fortunately she was able to swerve the perv)

***
Well, punters and punterettes, so ends another week. Debbie was a nice breath of fresh air. Don't think she'll stick around though. Too bad. We could use a little levity and good news. Ah well. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week. Meet you back here next week!
