Coronation Street Catch Up: the Party Bus edition

your one-stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Good news and bad news this week. The good news is Dennis Tanner returned to Coronation Street. The bad news? He was in an urn.

You remember Dennis. Son of legendary grande dame Elsie Tanner.  Accomplished rogue, bad boy and former husband of Rita. Dennis reappeared on the Street a few years ago (he was living rough) and reconciled with Rita only to disappoint her yet again and take up with another woman.

Anyway, seems like Dennis' last wish was to have his ashes scattered by Rita in Blackpool. Jenny decides that Rita needs company and so she rents a party bus and t-urns the trip into a kind of cremation vacation bringing most of the Street's women - and Ken - along for the ride.

Nice idea if you like loud music and Proseco. The trip leads to some heart-to-heart talk between Audrey and Rita (i.e.who did Alfie really love?) and the news that Ken is thinking about moving into a swanky retirement village with Claudia.

Sally gets a heartfelt phone call from Tim and she decides to forgive him for his past bigamy mistake.

Surprisingly, Yasmeen gets permission to get on the bus (this after a horrible episode where Geoff locked her in the magic box and left her there while he went to the pub).

Nina's on the bus under the watchful eye of Carla who seems to get through to her. This after Roy discovers that Nina has been evicted from her flat and is living rough and not eating. He is disturbed and tries to convince her to stay with him.

Back at the bistro, Bethany is becoming an irritant to Ray and interrupts Ray's attempt to get Alya alone in a hotel room. This results in Bethany getting fired but she's motivated to get the goods on Ray.  Meanwhile Daniel convinces Bethany to apply to a writing program and the two continue to get closer.

David returns from Leeds but manages to get into a car accident while driving Max and Lily.

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Audrey to Rita re: Alf
"He was always a giddy kipper for you"
(sounds fishy)

Rita is not pleased with the frequent bus stops:
"At the mercy of an incontinent bus driver"
(as opposed to a bus driver on the continent)

Jenny volunteers to flush Dennis' ashes down the toilet:
"What would your plumber say if he found human remains in your U-bend?"
(that'll cost extra?)

Rita explains why Dennis didn't want to be buried in Canada:
"He probably didn't want to pay the postage to Toronto"
(it is a very expensive city)

Jenny to Rita:
"We know Blackpool has some unhappy memories for you"
(well, she almost got killed there, so yes)

Claudia's opinion of Blackpool:
"Like Vegas for the poor"
(hmm. I thought Vegas was Blackpool for the poor)

Well, Corrie companions, so ends another week. More problems for David Platt. Jade still seems to be in the picture for Ty and Fiz. And here's a surprise: Eileen and Alina show up at Underworld to apply for the same job. Interesting... Thanks for stopping by and spending some time at the Hip.  Have a great week!
