Coronation Street Catch Up: the posters of Ryan Duckling edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

That tiny flat of Billy's was never suitable habitat for multiple humans.

Small wonder that someone in Paul's condition can't properly function there. And, somewhat inevitably, Paul has a fall while trying to get on the stair lift - yet another indicator that his MND is getting worse.

Now that his speech is becoming more difficult, Paul is using a new device which allows his eyes to compose sentences which are then delivered in his speaking voice. It's handy but when Summer shows up with her PhD boyfriend (Felix) from America, a glitch in the device results in Paul insulting Felix (repeatedly). Turns out that it's really Paul expressing his anguish at not being around for Summer's future.

Where exactly is that groovy restaurant where Rowan has his meetings? Could it be the Altovalent staff cafeteria (slogan: upload your favourite latte here).

Anyhoo, that's where Leanne has her first meeting (via Zoom) with Altovalent CEO, Willow. Looks like Leanne is quickly moving up the Institute ladder. Won't be long till she becomes a senior uploader.

On the flip side, Toyah has a heap of problems as a sworn enemy of Altovalent. She is tricked into missing a court date by a hoax phone call. And she is handed a huge bill for legal and court costs arising from her legal battle with Altovalent.

The worst blow comes when the police release the body of Toyah's baby Rose for a proper burial. Leanne contributes money to pay for the funeral but it turns out that the money actually comes from Rowan. Toyah is furious and ends her relationship with Leanne. Nick, with a perpetual pained expression on his face, is pushed away from Leanne - and into the arms of Toyah.

As a final salvo, Toyah confronts Rowan and tells him she will not cease and desist her campaign against Altovalent because she now has nothing to lose. At the same time, Toyah's convinced that Altovalent goons are following her and they seem to have snapped a candid shot of her in a lip lock with Nick.

Poor Ken suffers a fall and a pelvis fracture. After a short stay in hospital he is told that he needs help (and a walker) at his home. Ken rebels against the idea of a family rota to help him and instead wants to hire a care worker to help him during his recovery.

Over at the garage, Kev and Abi enlist the help of Max to find out who's been posting deep fake videos of Abi online. They hit a dead end but meanwhile the TV documentary series about Corey Brent (inmate football coach) is cancelled thanks to Abi's protests. However, Bethany has a new job with a magazine and her first assignment is to write about how Abi got the show cancelled.

Michael and Glenda seem to be a bona fide romantic item. At the same time, Glenda is pursuing her legal claim against George for her fair share of the Shuttleworth empire. In fact, Glenda is having preliminary talks with Rest Easy funeral homes (slogan: cheap.. but not cheerful) for a possible merger of her share of the business. A mediation session in the Rovers with amateur mediator Debbie falls flat (why am I not surprised?)

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Cassie reports to Ty about her conversation with Abi :
"Apparently I could start a fight in an empty room"
(she doesn't even need a room)

George to Glenda:
"You're a people person, I'm a dead people person"
(I think I prefer 'people person')

Exasperated Debbie to George and Glenda:
"You don't need a mediator, you need an exorcist"
(Ask Brian to put an ad in the Kabin window)

Glenda to Michael re: George:
"Men are morons"
(words to live by)

Steve to Cassie:
"If I ever do require an ex-junkie homewrecker, I'll let you know"
(maybe she has a business card?)

Cassie to Steve:
"If ever I need any paintwork touching up with the world's tiniest paintbrush, I'll let you know"
(I don't think we're talking about paintbrushes)

Rowan to Leanne:
"You mustn't allow yourself to be emotionally manipulated by your sister"
(yes, that's Rowan's job)

Ken complains about staying in Amy's room on the ground floor:
"So many posters of Ryan Duckling!"
(Ryan Gosling's less-famous brother?)

Leanne to Nick:
"I need to do an upload"
(I'll get a bucket)

***
Well, fellow Ryan Duckling devotees, so ends another week. I hope Ken recovers fully from his fall and I do hope Toyah stops her feud with Altovalent - for her own sake. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week!
