Coronation Street Catch Up: the stupidity of men edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

It's been a week of unrelenting bad news (and that was just Monday's episode!) on Coronation Street.

The exception was perhaps Steve and Cassie trying to explain to Tim and Sally what they were doing in Sally's house, wearing housecoats and rescuing Bertie from the hot tub. After that legover incident, Steve gives Cassie the cold shoulder and then tries to apologize but Cassie isn't interested and it looks like the twosome may be splitsville.

Elsewhere, I'm afraid it's bad news all round.

Dee Dee has her baby and decides that she wants to go ahead with her plan to give the baby to James (and partner Danny). But her plans are scuttled. First of all, Dee Dee is very sick after the baby is delivered which leads to an emergency operation and a hysterectomy. This means Dee Dee can't carry another baby.

However Dee Dee still wants to let James and Danny adopt the baby. But then Danny has a car accident and is badly injured. James leaves suddenly to be with Danny (who's in the U.S.) and Dee Dee is left to reluctantly care for baby Laila on an interim basis while Ed and the family try to figure out what to do.

Meanwhile, Dee Dee's anger and frustration spills over as she lashes out at Lauren for urging her to have the baby as a donor for Frankie - not now needed as another donor has been found (and Frankie is doing well).

Elsewhere Kevin has started his chemotherapy and is having a tough time. Abi tries to be a source of comfort but he pushes her away. However he finds a friend in Julie who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. To add to Kev's woes, Jack has been fighting at school. Then, later, Jack and Hope grab some scooters (illegal) and are caught by the police (Hope also has a bottle of Evelyn's medicinal booze).

Debbie is found in the ginnel with some nasty bruises. She is dazed and doesn't remember what happened but Ronnie suspects that Mick is the culprit (as Mick and Debbie have an ongoing feud).

Meanwhile Chesney is getting worried because he now knows that Mick was the guy stalking him. Mick was subsequently the victim of Ches' foolish revenge act (i.e. putting sugar in the gas tank of Mick's van).  This can only get worse.

At the Rovers, Daisy and her unlikable Mum (Christina) are plotting to steal Jenny's windfall inheritance from an ex-husband. Christina creates a fake fella on Jenny's dating app and is determined to string along Jenny in order to swindle her out of her money.

And finally, a bright spot amidst all the gloom. Todd and new hunk in town Theo finally get together and get snogging (and probably more).

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Debbie scolds Ronnie for trying to pick a fight with Mick:
"Is there no end to the stupidity of men?"
(rhetorical question)

Cassie to Steve (who is trying to apologize):
"What's that between your legs? Your tail?"
(I certainly hope so)

James to Dee Dee's baby (Laila):
"We're going to have the best time in America"
(have you checked the news lately?)

Debbie to Ronnie re: Bernie:
"Why would you have tofu when you can have tenderloin?"
(less cholesterol?)

Evelyn to Cassie re: her legover with Steve:
"I hope you had the good sense not to broadcast it on Tok Tok"
(or Instagroom)

Christina to Steve in the Rovers:
"Can I buy you a drink handsome?"
(sure, once he finds a punter who's handsome)

Lisa confesses to Betsy:
"I shot you"
(so, not the sheriff?)

Well,  fellow Street savants, so ends another week. Thanks so much for the pleasure of your company and have a Happy Easter. Watch out for those hockey playoffs as they may displace the Coronation Street broadcast schedule. Check your local listings.
