Coronation Street Catch Up: the thruples edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Abi continues to spiral downwards after Kev breaks up with her, takes off in a camper van and leaves instructions for her to clear out of his house (to be no longer called Downton Abi).

In the depths of despair, Abi turns to a dodgy friend to acquire narcotics and adds a few bottles to the mix. The dodgy friend discovers that Abi works in a garage and uses the opportunity to steal a car and takes Abi along for the ride. Abi is feeling ill and is then left stranded by the dodgy friend whereupon she realizes she's having a baby.

Long story short, she winds up in the hospital, delivers the baby, legs it, tries to retrieve the stolen car for Kev's sake, passes out and is returned to the hospital. The ever-present Toyah shows up and tries to comfort Abi and talk her into seeing and keeping the baby. Of course Toyah still doesn't know that the baby's Dad is her fiancé, Imran. Their illicit one night leg over remains a secret.

Eventually Abi decides she wants to see the baby whereupon a social worker shows up to say "not so fast". The court will have to decide the baby's future.

Over at the Bailey's, Michael is trying to get in touch with Grace so she can be part of baby Glory's one-year birthday. Of course, Aggie and Ed have yet to tell Michael that they made a secret deal with Grace to get out of town and leave the baby with Michael.

On the brighter side, Sam is developing into an excellent chess player. He handily defeats Brian but his chess playing activity seems to be adversely affecting his schoolwork so Nick bans any further chess matches. However, Leanne decides to reverse the decision without Nick's knowledge.

Kelly finally tells Gary and Maria about her caregiving duties for her Mum. Since Kelly is overwrought and over worked, Maria suggests that Kelly's Mum move in with them to make things easier. Great! (how big is that apartment, anyway?)  However, as Laura prepares for her final days, she decides to hire a private detective to locate her missing husband, Rick Neelan. Hope the lucky PI has a shovel.

More good news. Nicky is back on the Street (but not in that way). Seems she wants to reconnect with Daniel but she is intercepted by Daisy who takes devious steps to keep the two from meeting.

And, finally, Adam's attempts to reconcile with Sarah fall flat and it seems that Lydia has the upper hand in dismantling Adam's life to make him pay for past misdeeds.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Debbie to Abi:
"I think you're a car crash"
(sadly, yes)

Lenny, the Clouseau-esque PI, to Gary after Gary mentions that Laura has moved in:
"Are you one of them thruples?"
(he's having enough trouble being a couple)

Abi explains her circumstances to Toyah"
"I went into labour in a stolen car"
(so, no midwife?)

Lydia to Adam:
"Life's a bitch and then you meet one"
(is that a T-shirt?)

Abi to 911 operator:
"I'm having a baby"
(pre-natal classes would have come in handy)

***
Well, Weatherfield watchers, so ends another week. Can things possibly get any worse for Abi?  Let's hope not. Thanks so much for dropping by and spending time here at the Hip. Have a great week. Cheers!
