Coronation Street Catch Up: the Spitting Image of Carlos Santana edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

It's a shocking revelation!

Stephen's latest exploit? No.  The fact that Laurence isn't a killer? No, not that either.

I'm talking about Brian who says his Dad was the spitting image of Carlos Santana (Oye Como Va!) although the Black Magic Newsagent says he has the voice. Smooth!

Speaking of smooth, ol' Stephenissimo seems to have the luck of the Irish (even though he's Canadian).

Let's rewind a bit.

Sarah and Michael are forging ahead with their new business and get a chance to meet an important buyer. However they need some quality samples to show him. Uncle Stephen comes to the rescue and opens up the factory so Beth can do some surreptitious stitching at night without Carla's knowledge.

Unfortunately, Carla gets wise to what's going on (especially after the buyer takes a tour of the factory). She lays down the law and lays claim to the samples and the designs (i.e. all the work that Sarah and Michael did).

Then Carla tasks Stephen with the tough job of getting the potential customer (a slimy fellow named Rufus (Elvis Costello's stunt double?) to sign a contract. Rufus isn't interested but then suffers a heart attack while Stephen is in his hotel room. The paramedics take Rufus to the hospital and, soon after, an escort arrives at Rufus' room. Stephen takes advantage of the situation to obtain a signed contract and brings it back to Carla.

However it's clear that a feud is developing between Carla and Stephen.

There's good news and bad news about Laurence. The good news is that he wasn't planning to kill Sean in Switzerland. The bad news is that the couple has broken up because Sean thought he was going to kill him in Switzerland.

Meanwhile it seems that Peter has been successful in trading up from a bhaji to a motorcycle (I'd rather have the bhaji myself). That means he wins the bet with Carla.

After the fiasco with their start-up company, both Michael and Sarah manage to get their jobs back at the factory. Sarah is conflicted because Adam really wants to have a baby and Sarah, who has already has two children, isn't keen.

Zeedan is back from London and he is concerned about Alya (following her recent brush with death). Alya decides to return to work with Dee Dee. Speaking of Dee Dee, she is shocked and disappointed to learn that her romantic interest (Damon) is a drug kingpin and has been arrested.

Budding golf ace Bernie purposely sabotages her chance to be on the local golf club team and prefers instead to spend time with Dev.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Brian to Mary:
"My Dad was the spitting image of Carlos Santana and I've got the voice"
(you've got to change your evil ways)

Mary to Brian:
"How much is this sombrero worth?"
(I'm peso-mistic about it's value)

Ryan to Leanne reflecting on his brush with death:
"I'm going to die a waiter in Weatherfield"
(But George will ensure a great funeral)

Dev to Bernie re: her sub-par golf performance:
"Maybe you were playing with some dodgy balls?"

Eileen to Sean re: Laurence:
"He may not be a murderer"
(here's hoping!)

Sarah to a nervous Michael after a potential customer wants a tour of their non-existent factory:
"Let Stephen work his magic"
(you mean his dark arts)

Sean to Laurence:
"I think you're actually planning on killing me on this trip"
(but only after you clear customs)

Potential customer (Rufus) to Carla, Stephen, Sarah and Michael:
"This whole situation is an omnishambles"
(That's the Underworld slogan)

***

Well, Bistro Buddies, so ends another week. Stephen continues to get lucky but how long can it last. Thanks for the pleasure of your company here at the Hip and have a great week.
