Coronation Street Catch Up: the Locked Up and Knocked up edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Another week and no respite from the dark and depressing story lines on the Street from Sinead's terminal cancer to Shona's problems with Max to Geoff's continued psychological abuse of Yasmeen to Ali's drug addiction.

Even the surprise appearance of Norris for Ken's 80th birthday only lasted a nanosecond and he was gone. As for the ongoing horror show of Gemma and her quads, the less said, the better.

The main news pervading the Street is Sinead's grim diagnosis which leaves her only a matter of weeks to live. The news is announced during Ken's birthday party and everyone is devastated. Eileen makes an appearance, apparently reconciled to the fact that she didn't go into witness protection with Jan.

Sarah decides it would be a good idea to get legless with Shona at midday. Meanwhile back at the house, Lily pushes Harry who winds up in hospital. Shona blames and shakes Max who leaves. Seems he has been visiting with his grandmother (mother of Callum) who wants custody.

Shona visits David to let him know what has been going on but David has problems of his own as some inmates seem to be agitating and he discovers that the fellow who sexually assaulted him (Josh) is a fellow inmate (I told you that it was a dark and depressing week).

Gemma has realized that publicity can bring tangible rewards and she's now keen to cash in on her impending quads (as is her Mum).  Although getting stuck in a turnstile is a bit of a setback and makes for a great front page story in the Gazette ("Locked Up and Knocked Up"). With Gemma, there's no middle ground: either you can tolerate her or not. Or not.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Maria to Michelle regarding Ali who has broken up with her:
"Congratulations on raising an emotionally stunted man child"
(yes, but as emotionally stunted man children go, he's one of the best)

Claudia shares a glass of champagne with Ken on his birthday:
"You could be sipping this in a gondola"
(I think he'd prefer a glass if it's all the same to you)

Ken shares his secret to life:
"Resist everything but temptation"
(certainly works for Ken)

Norris explains his surprise visit:
"I had to visit my chiropodist"
(how pedestrian)

Beth to Daniel who isn't keen on playing naked Twister with Kirk:
"There's nothing wrong with Kirk's dangly bits"
(depends on how dangly they are)

Well, patient punters, one day there will be less misery and more fun on the Street, but not for a while, I suspect. Oh well. Some long overdue thanks to the good folks over at the Coronation Street Guestbook. So nice of you to mention this humble blog and I am most grateful. Have a great week!
