Coronation Street Catch Up: the Bargain Basement James Dean edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Well, it finally happened.

After an excruciating series of super skin-crawling scenes of Geoff mentally manhandling Yasmeen, she finally snaps and plunges a broken wine bottle into Geoff's neck (and, believe me, he has some neck).

Apart from the use of echo chambers and Halloweenish visual effects (not necessary, the actors are well able to carry all the drama), it was a riveting climax to a series of humiliations by Geoff (i.e. forcing Yasmeen to wear an oversize garish dress, not telling her about money he gave to Tim, accusing her of wanting to run off with Peter Barlow, locking her in the house, blaming her for the STI which he actually gave her.... and on and on).

Over at ye olde tat shop, Gary intercedes on Kelly's behalf to read Kelly's Mum (Laura) the riot act about the money that was intended to pay for Kelly's education. Of course, the money actually comes from Gary, a kind of ongoing guilt payment following the demise of Kelly's Dad (Rick el loansharko) at the hands of Gary. Neither Laura nor Kelly know the truth about Rick (they still think he's gone AWOL). Of course, all this has Maria wondering what's going on.

Ken has made an executive decision. He has cancelled the sale of his house to Tracy. Looks like there'll be a whole lot of people living in that house. Oh, and Daniel and Bertie are back from Scotland. Will ye no come back again? Apparently ye will.

Meanwhile Dev and Asha are still trying to come to terms with that unfortunate video which Asha made and is now on the internet. Kelly comes by to apologize but Dev sends her away. Meanwhile Kelly is now living with Summer and Rev. Billy as Kelly's Mum seems to be absent from home on a a regular basis.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Geoff to Yasmeen:
"I don't enjoy being an ogre"
(you could have fooled me)

Dev tries to console Asha:
"The good things in life never last and neither do the bad things"
(let's hope so)

Geoff accuses Yasmeen of having the hots for Peter Barlow:
"That bargain basement James Dean"
(the rebel without a drink)

Dr. Gaddas to Yasmeen:
"You tested positive for chlamydia"
(thanks Geoff !)

Geoff continues his abuse of Yasmeen:
"You disease-ridden old tart"`
(I abhor violence, but if she doesn't grab that wine bottle... I will)

Geoff gets tested confirming that he has the STI:
"I'm Team Chlamydia too"
(you're probably the team captain)

Peter, the ex-bookie, gives Geoff a hot tip on a horse:
"Dusty Carpets"
(never been beaten)

***
Well, distancing devotees, so ends another week and Yasmeen finally stands up to Geoff's incessant abuse. There's only one snag: Geoff doesn't look too good writhing on the carpet after the wine bottle attack. And, if he's taken to hospital, will he be forced to listen to his own insipid hospital radio show? (I hope so).

Thanks for stopping by and spending some time at the Hip. Lovely to have the pleasure of your company. Have a great week and do stay safe. Cheers!

  1. It has been 14 months since we gave up watching Corrie after watching since the 60s. We just were not enjoying it any more. However I still read the Hip every week and it makes me laugh. Thank you
