Coronation Street Catch Up: the lesson of the boiling frog edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Ah yes, the old lesson of the boiling frog. Why didn't I think of that? No, it's not a nouvelle cuisine dish, it's Imran's trenchant analysis of Geoff's sick pathological behaviour. Not sure of all the details but apparently, if you try to heat up a frog in a pot of water, he or she won't notice until it's too late.

Anyway, the point is Geoff is a frog killer. No, wait, that's not it. The point is Geoff gradually chips away at his wives' self esteem and confidence and they don't realize what he's doing until it's too late.

As you have probably ascertained, Yasmeen's trial is well underway and Imran is doing a superlative job of presenting her case even though Geoff's shark lawyer has shredded the testimony of Yasmeen, Sally and Alya. Things looks grim until Elaine turns up as a surprise witness and bravely tells her truth.

The coup de grace comes when Imran produces CCTV footage of Geoff at the hospital threatening Elaine (which contradicts Geoff's testimony). Under intense questioning by Imran, Geoff shows his true colours as a contemptuous ogre. Now we wait for the verdict...

Elsewhere, the battle with Ray Crosby is heating up. Ray has bought up many of the properties on Coronation Street with the help of double agent Deb. Now that the residents are wise to Ray's diabolical plan, they are mobilizing, led by Abi and Sally.

Roy's intrepid research provides a key weapon as it seems that the Rovers might qualify as a protected property thanks to a historic internal heating coil (don't ask). Thanks to Deb, Ray is wise to the opposition and is accelerating his plans. A showdown is inevitable.

In other news, Leanne frenetically organizes a memorial for Oliver in that community space on the street. Sam shows up unannounced and Leanne loses it and tells Nick to take him home. Leanne subsequently tells Nick that she's moving out of the apartment so it looks like it may be splitsville for the couple.

The rift between Carla and Peter seems to be getting worse as Peter can't come to terms with Carla's recent one-night stand. If he discovers who the one night standee was (i.e. Adam), there'll be hell to pay.

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Elaine on the witness stand to Geoff's lawyer:
"We've simply told our truths"
(now it's up to the jury)

Daniel visits Dev's shop in search of supplies for Bertie:
"I just need some pull up pants"
(don't we all)

Deb wonders how's Roy research papers can impede Ray's plans:
"How can a folder stop a bulldozer?"
(by giving the driver a nasty paper cut?)

Ray to Deb about Roy and his cohorts:
"There's nothing worse than the local history mob"
(they're like a motorcycle gang with library cards and anoraks)

Imran cross examines Geoff at the trial:
"You enjoy frightening women don't you Mr. Metcalfe?"
(unfortunately, it's one of his best things)

Imran to Geoff again:
"You've learned the lesson of the boiling frog well"
(maybe that's because he's an evil toad)

Audrey makes an appearance at David's house:
"I was having a look at the sinkhole"
(I didn't realize Ray Crosby was in the neighbourhood)

Brian sounds the alarm against Ray Crosby:
"Man the barricades, Roy!"
(but bring some tea, barm cakes and comfy chairs)

Brian spots David in his doorway chatting with Abi:
"You might want to put a pair of trousers on"
(it's traditional)

Roy shouts out to Ray's media tour group:
"Whatever that man is telling you is a lie.."
Abi shouts out her addendum:
"...and he's a sex case"
(not necessarily in that order)

***
Well, fellow Street supporters, so ends another week as we rush headlong into some cliffhangers: Yasmeen's verdict, the fate of the Street and the fate of Adam (if and when Peter discovers the truth about Carla's one night stand). Thanks so much for dropping by and visiting. Hope you have safe and happy week and, despite all the hardships of 2020, I hope your Christmas is merry. Cheers!
