Coronation Street Catch Up: the Geoff exit edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Exit Geoff.

Looks like the dastardly magician has performed his last sleight of hand (and feet) by falling off a roof (while pursuing Yasmeen) and shuffling off this mortal coil. Few tears will be shed but Yasmeen is in shock as are Tim and Elaine.

All this follows a tumultuous trial which saw Yasmeen found not guilty. Yasmeen is free to go but Geoff continues to hound her, leading to a frenzied chase on the roof of her house where Geoff slips and slides off the tiles.

Not exactly a happy ending but those are in short supply on the Street these days. Take Peter and Carla (someone, please!) Peter discovers that it was Adam who had a one night stand with Carla. To punish Carla, Peter returns to the bottle (whom exactly is he punishing?) much to the dismay of Carla and Simon.

Meanwhile Adam gets conked on the head by an unknown assailant. He is in hospital and the suspects include: Sarah, Peter, Gary and a cast of thousands. It's up to the coppers to unravel the truth.

At the same time, Ray Crosby is moving ahead with his plans for bulldozing (err, I mean "redeveloping") the Street. The brave stalwarts of the Street (Roy and Ken) lead the resistance... but is it futile? Kev discovers that Deb is a double agent, secretly working for Ray. He tells her to sling her hook.

A temporary injunction is issued (thanks to Roy) to stop the demolition but Ray is determined to move ahead with his scheme. Abi's ill-advised dalliance with heavy machinery results in her cutting a powerline leaving the Street's residents in the dark (literally).

Leanne is planning to leave and go to France but Sam intervenes and she misses her flight. Sam's a nice kid and all that but he does seem to be a tad too involved in the affairs of the adults.

And now for some lines from the Christmas week:

Carla to Peter re: their wedding plans:
"If we flew to Vegas we could get married underwater"
(hope the minister has a snorkel)

Drunk Peter to a disgusted Simon, blames Adam for his state:
"Don't hate me, hate him"
(why not hate both of 'em?)

Cathy to Ryan upon hearing of Geoff's demise:
"Hoisted by his own leotard"
(only if it was a ballet-related death)

Deb's unflattering description of Sally:
"A grasping Cheshire wannabe"
(yes, but as Cheshire wannabes go, she's one of the best)

Gary tells Deb why he's not going to sell the factory to Ray:
"I'm not happy going into business with a sex pest"
(it's a deal breaker)

Deb to Abi re: her past liaison with Ray:
"You'd know all about his Egyptian cottons"
(Oh, is she from Egypt?)

Peter to Carla:
"You slept with my nephew"
Carla to Peter:
"I'm sorry"
(great! I guess that's all sorted)

Yasmeen finds the courage to confront Geoff:
"He still sucks his thumb when he thinks nobody's looking"
(ouch)

Yasmeen describes Geoff's reaction to rich or successful people:
"His mouth tightens like a cat's backside"
(that's an insult to cats' backsides)

Ken stands in front of the bulldozer sent to demolish the Rovers:
"My name is Ken Barlow and I was born in the shadow of this brewery"
(yes, in fact his parents almost named him Newton & Ridley)

***
Well, festive fellows, so ends another week and another year on the Street. These are dark days (literally) for the Corrie residents (at least until the power is restored). Let's hope there's some light at the end of the tunnel (for all of us). A big "thank you" to everyone who passed by this blog in 2020 and shared their time with the Hip. I do appreciate you all and wish you and yours a happy, restful and safe holiday and better days in 2021. Cheers!
