your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...
Like an off off Broadway version of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, we get a cringe worthy psychological drama with Jenny, Johnny and Jenny's stepdaughter, Daisy, along with her poor old boyfriend.
The unhappy family reunion takes place at an inopportune time. Johnny has confessed to the mother of the security guard whom he ran over many years ago during a robbery with Scott. The grieving mother is enraged and Johnny expects the coppers to turn up and arrest him. Jenny is devastated. She wanted Johnny to stay quiet.
It all kicks off just as Daisy makes a surprise visit for lunch. Things turn ugly when Johnny and Jenny have a mega fight, precipitated by Johnny who says he wants a divorce (good timing) but is really provoking Jenny to protect her when he goes down. Sure enough the coppers arrive during dessert and arrest Johnny. Jenny is left with Daisy to comfort her.
Elsewhere, Leanne is finally resigned to Oliver's sad fate. She ceases her legal opposition and prepares for the termination of Oliver's life support at the hospital. Afterwards, she is inconsolable. Steve is likewise devastated as are the family members.
On the Geoff front, seems Geoff has a new girlfriend much to the dismay of Alya and Tim who are concerned about the whereabouts of Elaine (Tim's Mum). Meanwhile Yasmeen prepares for her trial and insists that Imran take the place of her barrister (who is unavailable).
Peter and Carla remain on shaky ground relationship-wise as Peter drops by to visit Carla at the factory and finds she is mysteriously missing.
Meanwhile Revolting Ray continues his pernicious partnership with Debbie to acquire all the houses on Coronation Street so he can bulldoze the cobbles and build a new development. Ray seems to have convinced Geoff who pines for the beaches of Cypress where maniacal magicians can roam free. And, Ray scores another coup when he convinces Sally to sell and move to a discounted luxury house.
Then Ray does an encore creepy performance where he answers the door to his hotel room wearing a bathrobe. This time the victim is not Michelle but rather poor Faye whom Ray invites in and proceeds to try it on. Yuck.
And now for some lines from the week that was:
Johnny to Jenny who thinks a musically-inclined pet might brighten up the pub:"You want to get a parrot that sings Ed Sheeran?"
Deb shares her holiday wish:
Carla is encouraged by Peter to speak normally to him:
"Bug off you paranoid idiot"
Johnny to Jenny:
"I'm just old and clapped out"
Geoff to Ray as he considers selling up:
"My enemies would love it if I moved away"
Alya tries to ward off Geoff's new girlfriend:
"He's a monster"
David to Shona who has bought a dinosaur cake:
"I'd love to take a bite out of a T. rex"
Super creep Ray to Faye:
"Join me in the bath"
