Coronation Street Catch Up: the blood on my soft furnishings edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

The only nice thing Maggie Driscoll ever did was when she first appeared on the Street and offered some words of comfort to Asha who was having a panic attack.

Since then, she has become the Street's most snide, nasty and unlikeable character - although she has some stiff competition from Theo.

Case in point: berating poor Sam for not outing Megan sooner - while all the while Maggie has been covering up for her grandson who assaulted Daniel.

As it stands, Megan is accused of grooming Will. Both Will and Megan deny the charges and have been interviewed by the police. Both maintain that Will simply had a crush on Megan and Megan rebuffed his advances.

There seems to be a distinct lack of evidence against Megan (only Sam's allegations so far). However, now that the police (i.e. Kit) knows Megan is pregnant, a DNA test would confirm that the baby's father is either Will or Daniel.

When Daniel discovers that Megan is pregnant, he confronts her and implores her to take the DNA test which would confirm her innocence (if Daniel is indeed the Dad). Megan refuses and the two break up.

The news doesn't get any better elsewhere. Brace yourselves.

Theo and Todd are back together. Thanks to Theo's constant manipulation (and a tracking device that allows him to follow Todd 24/7), Theo is able to worm his way back into Todd's life. Theo spikes Todd's drink which in turn causes Todd to oversleep and miss the marathon that Todd intended to run in memory of Billy and Paul.

Theo swoops in afterwards to "console" Todd and before you can say "marriage from hell", he surprises Todd with a quick visit to the registry office and, bingo, the two are wed - much to Todd's surprise but he goes along with it because his spirit is broken. All this is hard to watch (without barfing).

Poor Summer
She must be severely traumatized after seeing Todd and Theo slink out of their bedroom after a legover. You just can't unsee a horror like that.

More bad news over at Dev's. That weird and unsettling fella (otherwise known as Mal) is out of hospital and roaming the Street so he can harass Bernie. Mal identifies Dev as his assailant and Dev is arrested (then released). We know that it wasn't Dev (but rather Kit) who assaulted Mal. Mal knows this too but he's just being his vindictive self.

Mal tells Bernie he's willing to retract his statement and forget about Kit's assault in return for "a night with Bernie". Sounds like a bad movie. Will Bernie succumb to this indecent proposal?

Meanwhile George is being sued by a vengeful woman because her late Mum left George some money. The woman is being represented by Adam and she wants to destroy George. Adam is also representing Megan which is causing some friction on the Street. In particular, Leanne is incensed and directing her anger at Alya who is beset by problems including Adam's dwindling list of clients and threats from her former employer.

Over at Underworld, Lisa and Carla are making plans for their wedding (I'm guessing that Becky isn't invited).  Still on the subject of Carla, at one point she bursts into the house while Betsy and Dylan are babysitting and assumes the two are having sex - simply because Dylan is removing his sweater (FYI, I also remove my sweater frequently and I can attest to the fact that it's a shag-free activity).

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Megan asserts her innocence to Kit:
"I became a teacher to give back"
(yes, but not in that way)

Eva re: Megan's pregnancy:
"All the evidence we need is growing right there in her belly"
(the bacon barm she had for breakfast?)

Theo to Todd:
"I'm thinking of moving away"
(don't let us stop you)

Maggie intervenes in the argument between Daniel and Adam at the Rovers:
"I do not want blood on my soft furnishings"
(it would clash with the wallpaper)

Todd explains Theo to George
"He's a complicated man"
(most psychopaths are)

Theo to George and Christina re:Todd:
"I'm going to make him the happiest man in the world"
(with the help of drugs, a tracking device and gaslighting)

Theo's wedding vow to Todd:
"We are Theo and Todd, TNT, dynamite"
(it's certainly an explosive relationship)

Lisa to Carla:
"We are total queens so let's do this properly"
(One might say God save the Queens)

Mal to Bernie:
"Just give me one night"
(the most indecent 'indecent proposal')
***

Well, fellow Wedding Watchers, so ends another week and the depressing stories continue - especially the endless saga of Todd and Theo and the monstrous manipulated marriage. We get it. It's a toxic gaslighting relationship (like the toxic gaslighting relationship between Yameen and Geoff). Can we wind down this story line ASAP?
 .
Well, that's enough of a rant for one week. Thanks for spending time here at the Hip. Remember that the NHL playoffs will displace the regular Coronation Street schedule. Please check your local listings for the broadcast time in your area. And, as always, I hope you have a great week.
