Coronation Street TGIF: the Ritchie De Vries experience edition

please note this post makes reference to the Jan 3 episode on CBC

I say! That rock band in the Bistro really had the punters tapping their feet didn't they? What was their name again? The Rolling Gallstones? The Tragically Hip (replacements)? The EarlyByrds Special? (that's quite enough - ed). Anyhoo nice to see Dennis enjoying himself and what can one say about the legendary guitarist Ritchie De Vries?  Can you dig it?

Julie tells Brian he's history:
"Sling your hook Brian"
(in other words, get on yer bike)

Gloria is chuffed to be standing between Ritchie and Dennis:
"I feel like Marianne Faithful"
(during her heavy drug days)

Julie can't believe Brian's deceit over fostering:
"This is like the vasectomy all over again"
(it's true, there isn't a vas deferens between the two situations)

Kylie's response to Gail's announcement that she has big news:
"Please tell me you're emigrating"
(Sadly no. Canada's loss is Weatherfield's gain)

Carla summarizes Rob and Tina's snogfest:
"Two friends getting acquainted with the back of each other's throat"
(like two randy Hall's Mentho-Lyptus lozenges)

Simon's comforting words to Max when Kylie makes a drunken appearance during the nativity play:
"Don't worry this happens every year"
(It's like a school tradition)

Kylie shares an uncomfortable truth with the Platts:
"That's the problem with this family - you're all frightened of the truth"
(that's a lie!)

Ritchie De Vries reveals his rock star pedigree:
"We toured with Manfred Mann once"
(someone should have told Manfred Mann though)

Well, Corriephiles of Canada, that's it for another week. Thanks very much for visiting during the Christmas season and thanks so much for your sage comments. How many episodes will we have to wait before Peter Barlow's legendary self-control caves in and he has that long awaited legover with Tina? Not many, I'll bet. Onward. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by. May 2014 be a great year for Corrie.

  1. Now I'm going to be looking for opportunities to work the "vas deferens" pun into casual conversation! That should be easy. Vasectomies are discussed so often.
