Coronation Street Catch Up: the prejudice and jealousy edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Well, I haven't heard the term "M'lady" so many times since I watched Parker and Lady Penelope on the sublime TV puppet show, Thunderbirds.

But I digress. It was a week of intense courtroom drama on Coronation Street as the Habibs faced off in court over the case of who killed Seb.

Sabeen did a reasonable job defending Corey while Imran was certainly in top form as he quizzed Corey, Asha, Tommy Orpington and the hapless Eli, all of whom took the witness stand.

The backdrop to the courtroom drama was the fact that Nina was able, for the first time, to remember the events of the fateful night of Seb's murder and clearly identified Corey (not Kelly) as the evil scum who brutally assaulted Seb.

On the witness stand, Sabeen was able to cast doubt on Nina's recollection and, to make matters worse, Kelly was removed from the courtroom after an outburst. So who knows whom or what the jury believes.

Meanwhile Abi does some sleuthing and concludes that Corey's Dad is splashing around cash and favours to witnesses (like Eli's Dad) who are corroborating Corey's version of events.

As sidebars to the ongoing courtroom drama, we see that Hope has begun her therapy sessions while Alina has booked a vacation to Romania for her and Ty (to visit family). I'm no psychologist but I don't think going away is a good idea for Ty at this time.

Curtis is in the hospital briefly because of his heart condition but then checks himself out and decides to move in with Emma. Todd and George get into a tussle over Phelan's ashes and, somewhat predictably, the ashes wind up on the floor just as Eileen walks in.

And now a few lines from the remarkable week that was:

Imran to Corey on the witness stand:
"You killed a young man in a fit of prejudice and jealousy"
(no further questions)

George to Todd:
"The first rule of undertaking..."
(...is you don't talk about undertaking?)

Tommy Orpington testifies about Corey:
"He's always really impressed me"
(... as a foul-mouthed lout?)

Eileen is horrified to find Todd vacuuming ashes:
"You were going to Hoover her up!"
(next time, use a Miele. It'll be faster)

Corey testifies about Kelly:
"She was like a proper banshee"
(as opposed to an improper banshee?)

Nina to Abi, Summer and Asha:
"It was Corey. I remember everything"
(Eureka!)

Well, courtroom cohorts, so ends a riveting week on Coronation Street. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Corey is found guilty but, as they say, the jury's out (or at least, they will be soon). Should be a good week coming up but be aware that September 20 is election day so do check your local TV listings for the broadcast time. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week.
