your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...
Are we sure that Stephen is Canadian?
Does he really dress up, eat waffles and set off fireworks on Canada Day? Or is he just combining Halloween and National Waffle Day (August 24th)?
And what does he dress up as? Jack the Ripper? Sweeney Todd? Captain Hook?
No matter. The point is that Elaine thinks Stephen is homesick for Canada and prepares a festive surprise for the conniving Canuck. However, while waiting to shout "Happy Canada Day (eh)!", she overhears Owen telling Stephen that he's withdrawing his offer to buy Carla's share of Underworld. Owen also accuses Stephen of having a "thing" for Jenny.
Elaine is perturbed. Stephen, as is his habit, weaves more lies to cover his tracks and distract Elaine.
Step One: exacerbate the row between Elaine and Tim.
Step Two: accelerate wedding plans with Elaine.
Step Three: assuage Carla's suspicions about a fake company by convincing his ex-wife to do a Zoom call with Carla and convince her that the fake company is legit.
Elsewhere, Gemma hosts a chili eating contest to raise money for Paul. Although the contest succeeds in raising a nice chunk of change, contestants Dev, Chesney and Shona suffer a three-alarm fire emergency in their respective mouths.
To make matters worse, Paul subsequently goes on a bender with an ex-boyfriend who gets Paul drunk and then robs him. When Paul finally returns to the Street, he confesses everything to Billy who is not happy. How will this affect their relationship?
Evelyn decides to help her drug-addicted daughter, Cassie, get clean. She leaves the Street suddenly (leaving Ty to handle the kids) and doesn't reveal what she's doing or the fact that Cassie is Tyrone's real mother.
Ryan decides to go back to work at the Bistro and seems to be fairly happy until an obnoxious customer asks that he not serve her table. Leanne and Debbie are furious.
Max decides to provide a statement for the trial of Griff. Max's ex-girlfriend Lauren is still hanging around and Max is letting her spend her nights at Audrey's hair salon.
It's clear that Yasmeen and Stu don't share the same interests, while Roy and Yasmeen seem to have a lot in common. This is apparent during a Rovers trivia night quiz when Roy and Yasmeen excel and Stu is left to skulk back home.
And now for a few lines from the week that was:
Joseph to Chesney re: lack of toilet paper in the house:
"The Victorians used newspaper"
(builds character and provides reading material)
Bernie tells Gemma and Chesney that Paul discovered her healing artifacts:
"He rumbled me crystals"
(I hate when that happens)
"Long engagements are not a good idea at our age"
(with Stephen around, that might not be a problem)
Michael tells Elaine why Stephen is in a funk:
"I think it's something to do with Canada"
(Don't blame us)
