Coronation Street Catch Up: the bog roll stockpiling edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Looks like COVID-19 has made its screen debut on Corrie what with all the distancing signs and Brian's officious disinfecting.

But the pandemic hasn't stopped developments on the Street. During her sejour in prison, poor Yasmeen suffers a heart attack and is taken to hospital. As a result, her trial has been delayed. Meanwhile, Alya and Ryan find the mystery woman who knows all about Geoff's deviant behaviour.

Turns out it's Elaine Jones who was Geoff's beleaguered first wife and, in order to escape his clutches, left him and her baby. Alya convinces Elaine to testify in court and Elaine (or Philippa as she was once known) then ventures into the cab office to reveal her identity to her son, Tim. It doesn't go well and Tim doesn't believe her but Geoff certainly has some 'splaining to do. Let's see how the magician wriggles out of this one.

Over in the woods, Brian tries his hand at detectoring. No joy and, not only that, but edgy Gary breaks Brian's metal detector (one supposes that Gary would prefer that Rick's corpse remain undisturbed by treasure hunters). Gary later apologizes (could happen to anyone).

But the hunt is not over.

Eagle-eyed Bernie finds a nice watch in the woods. She sells it to Sarah for a bargain price. Only problem is the inscription on the back which says: "To Rick from Laura". Hmm. Gary finds out about the watch and goes ape trying to get the watch back which leads to an emotional confrontation with Sarah. As Sarah runs away into the path of a car, Gary pushes her aside and gets hit by the car (at which point my DVR shut off - arrgh).

All this comes after Sarah discovers that hubby Adam has been playing flirtus maximus with Rick's wife, Laura. Sarah is not amused.

In other news, nurse Aggie is working double shifts at the hospital (helping cope with COVID 19 cases). Although Edison tries to arrange an anniversary party (virtual, natch), Aggie can't make it because she has to self isolate after being exposed to a COVID patient.

And now for a few lines from the week that was:

Cathy to Gary:
"Everyone's stockpiling bog rolls"
(not to mention flour and hair clippers)

Gary assures Bernie that he's not trying to find a date for his Dad:
"I'm not after pimping you out"
(Phew! That's a relief)

Elaine to Tim:
"You're my only child"
(Come on Tim. Figure it out)

Sarah to Gary:
"Did you kill Rick?"
(No, he's just resting... like that Monty Python parrot)

Gary describes fellow loan shark employee Sharon:
"Vin Diesel in a dress"
(an off-the-shoulder number, one assumes?)

Bernie assures Brian that they make a great treasure hunting team:
"With your hi tech equipment and my nose for a truffle..."
(Isn't truffle hunting usually done by dogs?)

Laura to Adam re: Sarah:
"Dump that. Call me."
(Succinct, if nothing else)

***

Well, pandemic pals, so ends another week as COVID-19 shows up on Coronation Street and the denizens have to contend with that - in addition to Geoff, Gary and all the usual trials and tribulations. Thanks for stopping by and spending some time here at the Hip. Have a great week!
