Coronation Street Catch Up: the Michael Rodwell, RIP edition

a look back at last week on Canada's Coronation Street.

Farewell Michael Rodwell: accomplished burglar, prison inmate, taxi dispatcher, ice cream vendor, and fifth spouse of Gail Platt

He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mr. Whippy Foundation serving ice cream to the needy in the remote regions of Bournemouth.

Yes, I'm afraid Michael has passed away due to a dicky ticker (his heart) and a dickish trickster (Phelan). It all happened when Michael broke into the building site office (why do you need a site office for fake condos?) and found incriminating evidence on Phelan's scam. Unfortunately Michael was caught by Phelan and suffered a heart attack while trying to escape. Phelan was only too happy to stand by and watch.

Unfortunately for Phelan, his partner in crime (Vinnie) has skipped the country with all the ill-gotten money leaving Phelan behind.

Elsewhere, there are many Barlows converging on the recuperating Ken. Daniel, Adam, Peter and Tracy are all happy to see Ken return home but Daniel seems to be hiding something (a PhD ?)

Meanwhile Brian Packham, ex-headmaster and current city employee, is back and spending time with his erudite pals, Ken and Roy, who seems less than enthused about his upcoming wedding to Cathy.

And now for some lines from last week:

Peter to Tracy re: Daniel's intellectual discourse:
"He's like a mini Dad"
(wonder if he has a kimono?)

Eileen to Phelan:
"the first time in my life I'm not worried about the future"
(not sure there'll be much of one after the scam is revealed)

Phelan taunts Anna about her severe burns:
"I like my bacon well done, not my women"
(FYI, he also likes his eggs 'runny' - like his partners in crime)

Luke to Steff re: tracy:
"She's not too bad on the eye"
(but deadly to the rest of you)

Todd tells Eileen he's not interested in looking at wedding dresses:
"I'm not your daughter mom, I'm just gay"
(not that there's anything wrong with that)

Phelan to Todd:
"Vinnie's gone and so is all our money"
(on the plus side, the flats are selling really well)

***

Well, Corriephile compadres, so ends another week. I'm sad to see Michael leave this mortal coil but let's be honest, being Gail's husband is a risky proposition at the best of times. Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!
