Coronation Street Catch Up: the picture of your tiddler edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Farewell Summer! (the young woman, not the season... although in Canada you never know).

Yes, Rev. Billy, Paul and Todd (the three unwise men) said their tearful goodbyes to Summer as she left Weatherfield to travel to Boston to attend college. The sports savvy Billy encourages her to get tickets to see the Boston Keltics. Hopefully Summer will soon learn that crisps are chips, chips are French fries and that one can freely mention the words 'fanny pack' without being embarrassed.

However, Summer leaves the crowded flat of Billy and Paul at a difficult time as Paul's MND is progressing and he is now slurring his words and must take food in liquid form as he has difficulty swallowing.

Elsewhere Damon reluctantly participates in a robbery along with two lunkheads under orders from step brother Harvey.  Damon believes that this one job will leave him and Sarah free to pursue a happy life but Sarah is appalled when she finds out about the planned crime and tells Damon to sling his hook.

Damon does his best to make the best of a bad situation. He prevents his two accomplices from killing a hapless security guard but is swiftly arrested by Weatherfield's finest (i.e. not Craig).  Damon then pleads guilty to the crime.  Once locked up, Harvey visits Damon in his cell and the two have a fight. The end result is that Harvey thinks that the two should reunite in business - just like the good old days (move over the Krays and Peaky Blinders).

Back at the flat, Sarah learns about Damon's actions and receives a phone call from the prison. Seems that Damon wants her to visit...

Steve is not doing well as he tries to return to the dating scene. Ken decides to accompany Stevie to the Chariot Square hotel bar (slogan: "every night is desperado night") to... um... "pull" (i.e. attract human females). To add insult to injury, it seems that only the fit nonagenarian (Ken) is able to attract any interest from the one woman in the bar.

Over at the Rovers, Daisy's Mum is back and wants a place to stay. This is a problem for Daisy as she and Jenny have said that Christina lent them the money which helped them buy the Rovers (rather than the truth which is that they stole Carla's money by hacking into Stephen Reid's secret account). When Ryan lets the cat out of the bag, Daisy is forced to tell her Mum the truth and Mummy dearest promises to stay quiet. Hmm. Wonder how long that will last?

Joseph has taken the Oakhill entrance exam and he's fairly confident that he did well (I guess it was more demanding than the test Rosie took back in the day). Both Chesney and Gemma seem to be okay with Glam Gran Linda paying for Joseph's expensive education.

And finally, Nina is worried about the legal costs that Roy might incur to defend himself.

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Harvey explains the reporting structure of the robbery to Damon:
"Me organ grinder, you monkey"
(Maybe you could provide an org chart?)

Paul plays back one of his recorded phrases:
"Liquidize me a pork pie"
(I hear they taste better that way)

David to Sarah as Adam approaches:
"Here comes the caber tosser"
(Pictist!)

Damon explains to Sarah why he committed a robbery:
"Harvey's already tried to kill you once"
(thanks for the reminder)

David explains Steve's Tinder problem to Debbie:
"No one's swiping right"
(but left is very popular)

Debbie encourages Steve to try his luck at her hotel bar:
"We get some right desperadoes"
(...and there's always room for one more)

Debbie encourages Steve to show Elspeth a photo of his fish:
"Show her a picture of your tiddler"
(I hope that's not a euphemism)

***
Well, Weatherfield watchers, so ends another week concluding with Damon in jail. I guess it's nice for the brothers (well, step brothers) to be both inside as they can keep each other company during weightlifting and exercise time in the yard. Not so great for Sarah who has struck out once again thanks to her penchant for bad boys.

Remember, it's that time of the year when the hockey playoffs begin and the schedule for Coronation Street changes. Do check your local listings for the air times in your area and adjust your viewing time and/or your recording devices accordingly (it's also available on CBC's Gem, as you probably know).

Thanks so much for stopping by the Hip. Have a great week!
