Coronation Street Catch Up: the simplistic baloney edition

your one stop update on what happened last week on Canada's Coronation Street...

Well, the cat (meow) is out of the bag.

Jenny folds like a cheap tent under the weight of Carla's questioning and confesses to stealing the money that Stephen stole from Underworld

Actually, it was Daisy who accessed Stephen's secret bank account and convinced Jenny to use the money to buy back the Rovers.  Carla's first instinct is to go to the police but Ryan convinces her not to get the coppers involved. Instead Carla takes over the pub, fires Daisy and keeps Jenny on a short leash to run the pub and also return what's left of the stolen money (not much after Daisy's endless shopping sprees).

News of the thieving twosome causes Ryan to lash out at Daisy but he later admits that he still loves her (what?!!) Jenny is repentant and blames Daisy for being the instigator of the crime. However Rita tells Jenny that she and Daisy are equally to blame and that Jenny should stand by Daisy.

Meanwhile Mason (aka Captain Eyeliner) gets his stooges to threaten Dylan before Dylan is scheduled to testify in court. Dylan has a wobble but Liam convinces him to stick to his testimony (which Dylan does). Although Violet wants to take Dylan back to London after the trial, she relents and allows Dylan to stay in Weatherfield with Sean.

Things are looking up for Liam but Maria seems to be traumatized (by Liam's past thoughts of suicide). She can't focus on her job at the salon, spies on Liam through a secret living room camera and continues to sleep in the same bedroom as Liam.

Simon and Leanne are captivated by the teachings of groovy guru Rowan (BTW, loved him on that old show,  'Rowan and Martin's Laugh In'). Rowan's brilliant analogy compares the brain to a computer (why didn't I think of that?) Ever hear of 'reality coding? (me neither). But Leanne is a firm follower despite Nick and Toyah's collective pooh-poohing of Rowan's facile teachings.

Poor Roy is a virtual prisoner in his own flat.

Stu tries to help Roy by asking street people about Lauren's whereabouts but just gets hit on the head with a brick for his trouble. Meanwhile Roy is trying to get in touch with Lauren's mother. Lauren's Mum, Kerry, surprisingly shows up in person at the caf and she and Roy get along nicely. Roy even invites her to stay the night at his flat and she agrees but why is she carrying pepper spray? And is she really Lauren's Mum?

Dee Dee and Michael continue to worry about Ed's debt but fortunately Ed gets some insurance money (following the fire that burned down his yard) and decides to pay off some of his debt. Ed also takes a part time job as a handyman at Debbie's hotel.

And now for some lines from the week that was:

Toyah to Rowan:
"I've never heard so much simplistic baloney in my life"
(Ever tried talking to Kirk?)

Daniel to Bethany as she tries to grab the label of Daisy's dress:
"It's not polite to grope the hostess"
(I believe Emily Post can confirm)

Kirk reveals Tracy's affectionate name for him
"A clownish simpleton"
(actually nicer than her names for others)

Steve to Amy as he prepares for a date:
"I'm going to see if my 'pulling' jeans still fit"
(women everywhere are praying that they don't)

Jenny to Carla re: the stolen money:
"We were always going to pay you back"
(one hotpot at a time?)

Carla to Ryan re: the appeal of Daisy:
"Love is blind or, in this case, lobotomized"
(probably both)

Carla to Jenny:
"I don't trust you anymore and I don't like you"
(don't sugar coat it, speak plainly)

***

Well, fellow 'reality coding' colleagues, so ends another week. That Rowan is quite the charismatic charmer (Nick and Toyah notwithstanding) and I think he's got something (I only hope it's not contagious). Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!
