Coronation Street TGIF: the Madonna marries Adam Ant edition

a look back at the week that was on Coronation Street in Canada

The event of the week was the wedding of Adam Ant (Kirk) and Madonna (Beth) in an 80s theme wedding. Tracy, Sinead and Maria were Bananarama. Dev was a ghostbuster. Mary was Sheena Easton. Maddie and Sophie were also Madonnas. Eileen was Frankie goes to Hollywood/Culture Club. Sean was George Michael.

In other news, Steve is inconsolable and unreachable. Tony used dirty tricks to get a partnership with Tracy in the pawn shop. Mary does not like Julie horning in on her relationship with Dev and the kids.

Gavin (not his real name) is finding it more and more difficult to conceal his true identity especially now that he and Steff are an item. Michael proposes to Gail. Gail finally accepts and then Michael collapses in the Bistro. Oh, and Carla's back.

Whew! Now for some lines from the week that was:

Tracy, Sinead and Maria describe their costumes:
"We're Bananarama"
(Wasn't Bananarama taller?)

Mary agrees to help Julie with the Beth/Kirk wedding cake:
"Sugar me up baby and lets get squeezing"
(after that, we'll work on the cake)

Maddie has a wardrobe malfunction:
"Me and the bride are both Madonna"
(how about two versions? - before and after Pilates)

Sean to Eileen:
"I'm George Michael, obviously"
(pre or post 'Wham'?)

excerpt from Kirk's wedding vows:
"Thin days and fat days, good hair days and bad hair days"
(Are those lyrics from 'Turn, Turn, Turn' ?)

Sally explains why she likes one of the Tinkers:
"Everybody's alright after a few glasses of Proseco"
(even Norris?)

Mary is proud of her Mexican culinary skills:
"My chimichangas have been much admired over the years"

Michael to Gail:
"Will you marry me?"
(Only if you're a headcase or serial killer)

Tracy likes Todd's idea for claiming insurance:
"You are not a complete waste of space"
(only a partial waste of space)

David to Michael after Gail accepts his marriage proposal:
"Welcome to the Addams family"
(They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky)

Well, fellow Corriephiles, so ends the week with a joyous wedding but also some sad news about the inimitable Anne Kirkbride (Deirdre). She will be dearly missed by fans everywhere. Thanks so much for dropping by and have a great week.
