Coronation Street Catch-Up: the Councillor Sally Metcalfe edition

a look back at last week on Coronation Street

In the immortal words of Dexy's Midnight Runners, "Come on Eileen" or, to be more precise,"Come on Eileen, are you serious about canoodling with that lying, slime ball, troll called Phelan?"

Apparently she and Phelan are an item and Michael, the saddest of sad sacks, is history, consigned to sipping tea with the obsequious Gail wearing her sympathetic vole expression.

Meanwhile, back at the O'Driscoll's, Reverend Billy and Eva break in and free the captive Marta. The O'Driscolls show up unexpectedly. Aidan intervenes and punches Richie. Cops arrive on the scene are all are taken to the cop shop. Bottom line: Marta is free but Underworld loses the big O'Driscoll contract and could be in financial trouble.

Elsewhere, the big news is Sally Metcalfe and her victory over Norris in the council election. a clear victory for conservatories, fascinators, and mothers of fashion models and lesbian daughters. Gemma lost her job at the hairdresser but got a new job at Dev's kebab shop. She also steps in and dispatches Bethany's bullies.

Zeedan is getting it one with Rana and the Nazirs are delighted. And Sarah is having labour pains even though she's not due for five weeks. Looks like Callum Jr. might make an early appearance.

Aidan explains to Johnny why he lost the big O'Driscoll contract:

"I punched Richie"

(must have been a 'no-punching clause' in the contract)


Sean re: the O'Driscolls

"Never trust anyone who plays ping pong"

(it's a terrible racket)

Gemma doesn't like the bullies who picked on Sarah:
"I hate vile skanks like that"

(she's seen more than a few at the Dog and Gun)


Gemma tells Audrey that she doesn't like the salon job:
"Sweeping ol' biddies' hair and making flaming cups of tea"

(that's the official job description on LinkedIn)


Norris to Rita on the importance of the election:
"This vote will secure the future of this whole area"

(or at least his part of it)


Eva's word for tactic:
"Tic tac"

(one can see the natural confusion, after all, one is a small mint and the other a conceptual action implemented as one or more specific tasks)


Sally brags to Tim about her future:
"The mayor said he could picture me in a golden chain some day"

(preferably secured in a dungeon)

Eva tells Aidan that he didn't act foolishly by punching Richie:
"You're the opposite of an idiot"

(a Mac genius?)

Well,  fellow Weatherfield wanderers, so ends another week on the Street. We leave Sarah with a premature baby birth on the horizon. We leave Eileen making yet another giant-sized man miss-step with the Phelonius Phelon and we leave Weatherfiled with a new councillor: Sally Metcalfe. It's just like House of Cards - without a full deck.
